On Tuesday 8 October, the Fait Gallery hosted the opening ceremony of the new academic year 2024/2025, which was marked by an evaluation of Masaryk University's success in international rankings, recognition of outstanding teachers and personalities associated with its development, as well as highlighting its reserves and shortcomings. A great honour for Faculty of Pharmacy was awarding of the MU Silveral Medal to two of our leading scientists, Prof. RNDr. Jozef Csöllei, CSc. and Prof. RNDr. Václav Suchý, DrSc., dr. h.c.
The Silver Medals are anually rewarded in appreciation of long-term significant work and contributions to our university, cooperation with domestic and foreign institutions or the development of Masaryk University. We would like to extend our most sincere congratulations and appreciation for both of our colleagues, and wish them all the best in their professional, as well as personal endeavours!

Jozef Csöllei
Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Deputy Head of the Department of Chemical Drugs, Faculty of Pharmacy MU, guarantor of doctoral study programmes Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry. Professor Csöllei is also an evaluator for the National Accreditation Authority for Higher Education in the field of Pharmacy Education.
The scientific research activities of Jozef Csöllei focus on the synthesis of biologically active compounds and the study of the relationship between structure and biological activity of substances affecting the cardiovascular system and the study of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.
Václav Suchý
Professor of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy MU, former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy (1994-2000) and Rector of the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno (2000-2006). In 2016, Professor Suchý received the Eduard Skarnitzl Medal for lifetime contribution to the development of pharmacy in the field of science, research and education, and in 2022 he received the Brno City Award in the field of medical science and pharmacy.
In his extensive scientific research activities, Václav Suchý focused on the isolation and identification of a number of plant substances. He was also involved in the study of tissue cultures of higher plants as systems of pharmaceutically important substances. To this day, he he supervises students' theses at the faculty, he is active in the courses Propaedeutics of Scientific Work and Pharmacognosy. He has always strived to incorporate the latest scientific and pedagogical trends into the educational process.
On Wednesday 16 October, the first edition of the Core Facility Day Life Sciences 2024 took place at the CEITEC building in the Bohunice campus. The aim of the day-long conference, which welcomed all academic and non-academic staff from Masaryk University, as well as the public, was to present professional services, equipment and facilities that can be used for research activities.
