Cost of living
Accommodation in MU Halls of Residence
Masaryk university offers 9 buildings around the city where students can find accommodation in shared, but also private rooms. The prices vary from 120 EUR/month (5-bed apartment) to 310 EUR/month (single room). The demand among students for accommodation always exceeds its capacity, though. Reservation of dormitory opens in July.
Private accommodation
Accommodation in private apartment can be costly, however looking for private room in shared apartment can be sometimes cheaper than staying in the dormitory. Facebook groups and certain websites are the most popular sources to look at. Useful tips where to look for private accommodation are provided in our International Students Guide.
Beginning studies abroad can be very challenging. How does the university work? How to find accommodation? How to get around the city? How to find help if you have special needs? How to get medical aid? How to open a bank account? How to find a job? Where to go shopping? Find answers to all your questions in the International Student Guide.

Orientation week
One week prior to beginning of teaching in each semester, an orientation week is organized for all new international students at Masaryk University, including degree, non-degree and exchange students. During this week, new students can experience Brno, learn first words in Czech language but also get useful tips on working with Information System, tour at the faculty and so much more! Some activities are paid, some are for free, and students can choose which ones they want to attend. More information can be found on the website of the organizers, the Centre for International Cooperation MU.
This year, the Orientation Week is scheduled for 9 to 14 September 2024.
The Faculty tour will take place on Wednesday 11 September at 10 AM at the main building.
During the Orientation Week, newly admitted students can come for in-person enrolment, the last chance to do so will be during an information meeting with study office and student ambassador on Friday 13 September at 2 PM. This meeting is compulsory for newly admitted students.
ISIC card
MU ISIC card not only serves as identification card of MU students and giving you access to all MU buildings, but also provides you student discounts in 180 countries world-wide.
The card is valid for 18 months and you can get discounts on Brno public transport, meals, SIM card, insurance and many more benefits. You can also choose to buy card without possibility to receive discounts. You only need to buy a digital re-validation stamp after expiracy of the period. If you have card from your previous study at another faculty of MU, you can use this card, and only buy the re-validation stamp.
In order to be able to order ISIC card, you need to have a photo in your IS profile.
Printing services at MUNI
At the university libraries, as well as our faculty atrium, we have a printer where students can print, copy and scan documents for their studies.
Instructions on how to use it can be found here.
Libraries
With the ISIC card, our students have access to all the libraries at MU. More details and complete list of faculty libraries can be found here.
Since our faculty is located at the Veterinary University campus (for now), most of our books are available in the VETUNI Library.
Our students get free access to the library but they have to get a special token first (the MU ISIC does not work there), you can pick up the token at the Study office.
Since the faculty will be moving to the Bohunice Campus soon, our students also already have full access (with their ISIC) to the Bohunice Campus Library (KUK).
You will find everything you need to know on the KUK website, if you have any questions, contact them at knihovna@ukb.muni.cz.
