We would like to identify a new organocatalytic system that will be applied to the stereoselective hydroxymethylation of isoindolinones affording compounds of medicinal chemistry interest. The additional research aim is to develop and study the aforementioned asymmetric process employing either novel or underexplored sources of anhydrous formaldehyde, which could eliminate the current experimental constraints of the reaction, i.e. low rate, poor stereoselectivity, and difficult reproducibility.
